London Looks to keep Vuvuzelas out of UK in 2012

Another good AlJazeera Story

  1. Acknowledging my probably incredible lack of medical knowledge and all, I gotta take the Dwight Schrute position on this. I hate the mass germophobia that's taking over the planet these days. People like to scare you by saying, "that's got germs on it." But germs are just microorganisms. The point these scientists are making is that a vuvuzela blast has more "germs than a sneeze," but what kind of germs? The germs of an allergy sneeze, a cold sneeze, a flu-sneeze, some kind of sci-fi instant-death superflu sneeze? There's a huge difference. Yeah, if everyone in a stadium was sneezing, that would be disgusting, but that's because sneezes mean you're sick, not excited about soccer.

  2. In general, I completely agree with you, but when you have tens of thousands of people from all over the world traveling to one central location, germophobia is perhaps warranted.

  3. For me, the experiment they conduct for the camera says it all. Look at the little stand they have for the horn. Look at the Asian woman in the spittle preventive poncho.

  4. In other words I thinks it's really ridiculous and probably some kind of cliche on the British... Also a mockery of science.
